Irondale voters went to the polls Tuesday and overwhelmingly chose to keep Mayor James W. Stewart Jr. in office for another term. Stewart secured 2,270 votes (76%), easily defeating challenger Ken Effinger, who received 700 votes (24%).
In the City Council races, several incumbents held onto their seats, while one new face will be joining the council:
- District 1: Incumbent John London was re-elected with 507 votes (78%), defeating Matt McLean with 141 votes (22%).
- District 2: Incumbent David Spivey kept his seat with 319 votes (77%), while challenger Donna Pike received 95 votes (23%).
- District 3: In the closest race of the night, Erin Arnold unseated incumbent Cindy Cuellar, earning 556 votes (52%) to Cuellar’s 509 votes (48%).
- District 4: Incumbent Robert Box retained his seat with 173 votes (62%), defeating Mary Sherer with 105 votes (38%).
- District 5: Incumbent Aaron Sims won re-election with 273 votes (56%). Melanie Colston received 154 votes (31%), and Anjanette Robinson received 64 votes (13%).
With these results, Irondale’s leadership remains largely steady, with Arnold’s win in District 3 marking the only change on the council.
